A Little Princess

Children's Musical Theatre of Bartlesville announces Andrew Lippa and Brian Crawley's “A Little Princess” coming to Bartlesville Community Center July 18-21, 2013.

Written by Tony-nominated composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa and award-winning book-writer and lyricist Brian Crawley, the story of a little girl with a great big imagination. Featuring updated script, score, orches-trations, and new material, "A Little Princess" is based on Francis Hodgson Burnett's popular 19th century children's novel which has been made into several films, including the 1936 Shirley Temple Fox film.

Separated from her father and the open-hearted Africans who helped raise her, Sarah Crewe is sent to boarding school in London. When things go badly, her imagination comes to the rescue, transforming the drab institution into a place of magic and mystery. She wins the affection of the other boarders, but draws the ire of Miss Minchin, the dour head mistress. When her father is re-ported dead, Sarah is made a servant at the insti-tution. Miss Minchin’s efforts to degrade her are met with the grace and virtue of a little princess.

Children's Musical Theatre of Bartlesville, OK was founded in 2000 with a mission to enrich the lives of area youth by providing quality musical theatre performance and education opportunities. CMT produces a full-scale musical each summer with a cast of 60-80 students from Grades 2nd -10th. Each musical is complete with quality vocal and live orchestra music, special effects, beautiful sets, period-appropriate costuming and props and top-notch character portrayals. Professional directors, choreographer, and technical staff work together to provide the cast with an intensive, top-quality theatrical and educational experience. The cast rehearses and performs 4 to 5 shows on the main-stage at the Bartlesville Community Center in a period of 5 weeks. Previous musicals include Cinderella, Bye Bye Birdie, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, High School Musical, Music Man, Peter Pan, Oliver, Annie, and Beauty and the Beast. The experience is educational and priceless for the cast, the families involved and the community!
